The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers has placed children in loving adoptive homes since 1899. We are here to offer information, support, and assistance to adoptive families, adoptees, and birth parents. Since adoption is a life long commitment, we firmly believe in an educational process that allows you to make informed decisions. The Maine Children's Home also believes in making that same life long commitment to its clients in the services we provide. We are a comprehensive adoption agency, offering professional services to all members of the adoption triad to include adoptive parents, birth parents, and adoptees. These services are staffed by warm, caring, professionals who will guide you throughout the entire process.

Our adoption services are designed to meet the ongoing needs of our clients. They include the Domestic Infant Program (In State), the Domestic Infant Program (Inter-state), the International Program, Private Home Studies, Birth Parent Services, Post Adoption Services and referral services as needed.

Who is eligible to adopt through Maine Children's Home?

The Domestic Infant Program In State and Inter-state offers families open as well as semi-open adoptions with the guidance of experienced adoption case workers.

The International Program occurs through networking with other licensed adoption agencies that specialize in international adoption. The children come from various countries such as China, India, Russia, and Haiti to name a few.

Birth Parent Services focuses entirely on the needs of birth parents experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and their child(ren). A sensitive birth parent counselor is available to assist in identifying the best plan for birth parents and their child.

Post Adoption Services ensure that support is available throughout the lives of the adoptive and birth family. Both post adoption counseling as well as adoption search services are available.

Our experienced adoption staff is ready to help find the best program to meet your needs and give you all the information necessary for you to make the right choice for you.
