DOMESTIC
PROGRAM (INTER-STATE)
The
Domestic Program (Inter-state) offers couples and individuals
a sound option to open a few more doors regarding adoption.
The Maine Children's Home provides all of the same services
as in the Infant
Program (In State) except another agency out of state
serves as the child-placing agency. In other words, the
infant or child is from another state in which that out
of state agency provides counseling for the birth parents
as well as manages the placement of the child with the prospective
adoptive couple. Following placement, the Maine Children's
Home continues to provide post placement supervision, finalization
services, and post adoption services.
We
will only work with licensed adoption agencies from other
states and we help adopitve applicant with Interstate Compact
guidelines necessary for any adoption between two states.
The
majority of the babies and young children adopted through this
program are of mixed cultural and racial heritage. Applicants
are required to participate in educational sessions on transracial
parenting and are encouraged to communicate with other transracial
families.
