INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM

International adoption offers couples and individuals the opportunity to add to their family through adopting a child from another country. The Maine Children's Home works in collaboration with other licensed adoption agencies who specialize in international adoption. We provide local adoption services to our Maine families while working with a licensed international adoption agency towards an adoptive placement.

The Maine Children's Home has formed relationships with several reputable international agencies who can assist our Maine families in adopting from abroad or families can choose to work with another licensed agency with our guidance.

Various countries our families have adopted from include China, Haiti, Vietnam, Russia, India, Equador and the Phillipines.

The International Program adoption process through the Maine Children's Home consists of the following steps:

• Orientation to the agency's services
• Pre-Application Interview
  
• Application to the adoption program
  
• Educational Study Group participation
  
• Written Home Study and Home Study updates as needed
  
• Pre-Placement Coordination/Networking with International Adoption agencies
  
• Interstate Compact Services if necessary
  
• Post-Placement Supervision
  
• Finalization of the adoption
  
• Post Adoption Services
