F.A.Q.

Could a Member of Your Family Benefit from Counseling?

As we navigate these uncertain times, some family members report worsening symptoms of anxiety and depression. Our professional clinical staff at the Turner family counseling Center is available to meet with you to decide whether counseling may be appropriate for you or your loved ones. We serve children, adolescents, adults in individual, couple, and family counseling.

What should I expect when I call the Turner Family Counseling Center?

First, you will speak with a staff member who will secure a brief amount of information so that we can understand the nature of the emotional or behavioral concern, and will ask for basic insurance/Maine Care information. The first appointment is both an opportunity for the professional to begin the assessment, and an opportunity for you to get a sense as to whether this counselor is a good match for you or your child. If your child is the client s/he will generally be included in at least a segment of the first appointment.

How long does counseling last?

This decision will be made by you and the counselor, based on your needs and desires. It may be possible to achieve your counseling goals within 8 weekly sessions, while some clients choose longer term therapy, to address more persistent problems.

Can young children benefit from counseling?

Young children participate in therapeutic play therapy activities, such as story telling, doll house play, therapeutic games, and expressive art activities. Children can use these activities to express their feelings, such as sadness, loss fear, guilt, and can be helped to recognize and cope with those feelings. Children can be helped to communicate more comfortably with their parents, and can increase their coping skills.

How do I pay for counseling?

Our services are covered by Maine Care, and most insurance.
