The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers Receives $1,300 Worth of Wire from Oxford Networks for Art Projects
|
WATERVILLE, Maine - At The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers in Waterville a little wire can go a long way. On Monday, June 20, Oxford Networks donated 100 feet of copper wire from Oxford Networks valued at $1,300. The wire, typically used on telephone poles, was requested by the agency for creative art projects for the 2- to 5-year olds at The Children's Place, students at the Teen Parent School Program, and clients in art therapycounseling
sessions.
"Mandi Howard, one of our preschool teachers, is excited because the wire can be used for making mobiles, sculptures, or used with glue and other materials to design amazing 3-D sculptures. Plus, Bodhi Simpson, director of the Teen Parent School Program and an LCPC registered in Art Therapy has shared that the wire is great for group counseling sessions and is used to promote problem solving and team building. In individual therapy sessions, the wire becomes a non-threatening vehicle for the client to express their feelings and emotions," said Sharon Abrams, executive director at The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers.
Many preschoolers waited outside to watch the large Oxford Networks truck arrive and unload the wire. The delivery was part of a scheduled wiring project for The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers phone and fax system.
"The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers works hard to help Maine children and families be the best they can be. Oxford Networks is proud to be their telecommunications provider and to donate 100 feet of copper wire for their Art Therapy mental health counseling," said Julia Munsey, Marketing and PR Specialist from Oxford Networks.
Dating back to 2002, The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers had a supply of the copper wire, but recently ran out. The wire allows 2- to 5-year olds at The Children's Place, students at the Teen Parent School Program, and clients in art therapy counseling sessions a variety of learning experiences and craft making opportunities.
Representatives from The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers are available for interviews about this unique donation. To arrange, contact Greg Glynn at 207-623-4177.
