Are you an alumnus of the Teen Parent Education Program at MCH? Keep in touch!

You are part of Maine Children's Home family, and you are important to us. We would love to know where you are and what you are up to. Maine Children's Home may also be able to help you find and reconnect with your former classmates.

We're also very pleased to share that many of our former students have returned to us as volunteers, donors, staff members, and board members. If you are interested, there are many ways you can help, too! Serving as a mentor and sharing your experiences with the pregnant and parenting teens currently enrolled in our Teen Parent Education Program at MCH can be very rewarding. If you are interested in volunteering, please note it on the form below, send us an email or call 207-877-9469. You can also join our Facebook group for alumni & past participants!

Mentoring Program

The Mentoring Program was developed in 2015 as part of our 40th anniversary of the Teen Parent Education Program at MCH. We know that statistically mentoring programs have a positive effect on youth at risk of not completing high school. According to a recent survey conducted by the National Mentoring Partnership, “The experiences of the young people surveyed showed significant positive outcomes for those who had a mentor. At-risk young people with mentors were more likely to aspire to attend and to enroll in college. They were more likely to report participating in sports and other extra-curricular activities. They also were more likely to report taking leadership roles in school and extra-curricular activities and to regularly volunteer in their communities.”

The goal of Teen Parent Education Program at MCH is to support these teen parents so that they can be the best parents they can be while assisting them in achieving their academic and career goals. This in turn improves their socioeconomic status and provides more opportunities for their young families.

Mentors are past teen parent graduates who may have had similar experiences juggling parenting, school and family. They are matched with students and help guide them through school and beyond, offering advice and encouragement, and helping with goal setting.

If you are interesting in becoming a mentor to our Teen Parents, please contact Alaina Wolman for more information or note in on the form below.

We look forward to hearing from you!
