WATERVILLE — June 10, 2026 — Maine Children's Home has received renewal of its Hague Accreditation for intercountry adoption services through the Center for Excellence in Adoption Services (CEAS), extending accreditation through May 31, 2030. The renewal marks the fifth time the organization's Family Adoption Program has achieved accreditation.
"This renewal reflects the continued commitment of our team to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards in adoption services," Executive Director Dan Booth said. "Maintaining Hague Accreditation requires rigorous standards, specialized expertise and the ongoing dedication of our staff. It means putting the best interests of children first and ensuring families receive safe and high-quality adoption services."
CEAS granted the renewal under federal law governing intercountry adoption, confirming the organization remains accredited to provide intercountry adoption services in compliance with international and U.S. standards. Hague Accreditation requires agencies to meet established international and federal standards governing intercountry adoption.
The standards are designed to ensure intercountry adoptions are conducted ethically, transparently, and in the best interests of children. They include safeguards intended to prevent the abduction, exploitation, sale or trafficking of children, while also providing protections for birth families and prospective adoptive families throughout the adoption process.
Founded in 1899, Maine Children’s Home operates one of the longest-operating adoption program of its kind in Maine. The Family Adoption Program provides both domestic and intercountry adoption services to families across the state and emphasizes relationship-based care supported by trained staff and best practice standards. The program will be housed in the organization’s new Center for Families, which brings multiple family support services together under one roof.
Maine Children's Home maintains Hague Accreditation through periodic review and evaluation by the CEAS.
